Solenoid Valve

In fire protection systems, a solenoid valve is an electromechanical device used to control the flow of water, gas, or other extinguishing agents within the system. It can be employed in both automatic fire sprinkler systems and fire suppression systems.

1. In an automatic fire sprinkler system, the solenoid valve, water flow switch, and drain work together to facilitate remote testing procedures. During a test, the solenoid valve is operated to allow water to flow within the sprinkler system, specifically for the purpose of testing the water flow switch.
2. In a fire suppression system, the solenoid valve is connected electrically to a fire detection and alarm system, control and indicating equipment. When a fire is detected, the solenoid valve is energised creating a magnetic field that moves the valve's internal mechanism, allowing or interrupting the flow of the extinguishing agent to the protected area.
