Occupant Warning System ("OWS")
Vigilant TGen 2 Occupant Warning System

An occupant warning system is a type of Building Occupant Warning System ("BOWS") installed to evacuate occupants of an emergency broadcast simultaneously throughout all occupied areas of the building via an evacuation signal.

An occupant warning system is provided in a building in accordance with Clause 7, Specification E2.2a of Volume One of the Building Code of Australia and Clause 3.22 of Australian Standard AS1670.1 and typically incorporates the following components;

  • a warning system amplifier;
  • a function key, rotary switch or buttons;
  • a microphone for public address announcements.

The amplifier may be configured into one or more warning system speaker circuits, where the condition of each circuit is monitored for any condition (open circuit, short circuit or water ingress) that could adversely affect its function.

The function key, switch or dial typically incorporates functions for automatic operation, alert, evacuate and isolation (disable) functions.
