Safety Bulletin

Safety Bulletins are periodically published to inform people about safety issues and general precautionary advice. Safety Bulletins should be used to compliment safe work method statements.

Infinity electrical cable recall

On August 27, 2014, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission published a product recall for Infinity electrical cables due to safety concerns.

Infinity cables were supplied in all states and territories, except the Northern Territory. The relevant periods of cable supply are:

  • 2010-2013, NSW
  • 2011-2013, ACT
  • 2012-2013, VIC, Qld, SA & WA
  • 2013, TAS

According to the ACCC, the cables don’t pose an immediate safety threat, however testing has found that the cables will degrade prematurely and if they are disturbed, the insulation could break and expose live conductors, resulting in possible electric shock or fires.

Safety Warning: Stored pressure aerosol cans can explode!

Maintenance Essentials has received a report of an exploding stored pressure aerosol can used for the general inspection, testing and maintenance of fire safety systems and equipment. An analysis of the exploding aerosol can indicates it was exposed to heat (in the passenger compartment of a motor vehicle) in excess of its published safe storage temperature.
